ROYSTON blooded some new talent in a narrow defeat on Saturday.

They showed pace out wide, and took the lead with a try from Andy Smith, converted by Joe Hilllman.

A hard working pack, notably Alex Hiom, enabled Mark Howard at full back and debutant Tristan Tegg at centre to produce some fine running rugby.

On one occasion the pair linked with wing Dan Ritsema to create 70 metres of flowing play but were unlucky not to increase the lead.

Tegg then went in between the posts to score his first points for the club.

But then Cambridge hit back with two soft tries, But they went ahead with a third try, this time converted.

And though Royston spent the last 15 minutes of the game looking for a winning try, it wasn't to be their day.

Royston travel to Old Grammarians this weekend.
