PETER Dean won the Men's Centenary Trophy at Royston Golf Club on Sunday, his first major trophy success.
Dean, pictured, was among the 15 qualifiers from last month's competition, with their original scores not counting for the final round.
With a swirling southerly wind and a threat of the odd shower, scoring proved to be very difficult for all the players.
Dean's nett 72 from his 16 handicap was enough to see him cruise three shots clear of the rest of the field, with Mark Hill (83-8=75) finishing second and Ben Geldart securing third spot.
The Men's July Medal was held in conjunction with the Centenary Trophy and Adrian Shoebridge tore the field apart with an astonishing nett 62 from his 11 handicap.
What made the score more remarkable was that only one other player shot a score in the 60s and that was runner up Darren Ellis (80-11=69).
Third spot was won on countback with Graham Cartwright stealing the spoils from Robert Clark and Mick Rowland.
Clark however, did share the best scratch score of the day with Shoebridge, a 73.
In Division two, scoring was extremely high and Alastair Livesey won top spot with a nett 74, but only on countback from Maurice Conybear. Clive Middlemass finished third, edging out Steve De Fraine.
Maurice Conybear did, however, win the Veterans Centenary trophy on Friday, this time on countback from Graham West.
Both players finished with 36 points, but Conybear had the better back nine score of 24 points. Senior Captain, John Galloway and Peter Noyce both finished with 35 points.
New member, Colin Lawrence won the Midweek Golfers stableford on Wednesday with 37 points, finishing a point clear of trio, graham West, Peter Mitchell and John Galloway.
The Hospital Cup Charity Stableford was held on Saturday, which raises fund for Royston Hospital.
Charlie Fidler ran out the clear winner with 44 points, which has now seen his handicap reduced to 11.
Bob Hart finished second with 39 and Gary Adcock third with 38. Judith Osler outscored Karen Pearson by one point to take the ladies prize.
The Ladies Centenary Cup was played on Sunday afternoon and resulted in victory for Carolyn Devaney with an excellent nett 71 from her 19 handicap.
Judith Osler cold not quite retain her form of the previous day, but did secure the runners up spot ahead of Kathy Musgrave.
Linda Lakey won the Ladies July Medal and in doing so also won the coveted Medal Winners final. Her nett 70 score was enough to seal victory by five shots from Pam Bonnett.
The Junior Centenary final resulted in an 18-hole play-off between Greg Fyson and Tom Trimble after both players had finished with nett 66.
Fyson had the upper hand in the play-off and eventually won with a nett 63, which has seen his handicap reduced to 24.
