Meldreth diver Dan Goodfellow is headed to Glasgow after he was announced as part of England’s 2014 Commonwealth Games squad.

The 17-year-old is part of a 15-strong team, one of the largest Team England diving squads ever assembled, that includes Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley as well as Olympic finalists Chris Mears, Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow.

Goodfellow faced a race against time to be fit for the Games following surgery to his elbow to remove rogue tissue and cartilage around the joint. The injury meant he missed the final two Fina World Series meetings as well as the British Diving Championships in Sheffield.

Team England chef de mission Jan Paterson said: “This is a superb squad of divers that I’m delighted to welcome to Team England. We have a great mix of experience and talent who I’m sure will do the nation proud this summer and I’d like to congratulate all of them on their selection.”
