ROYSTON gave outgoing coach Luke Green a fitting send off with a spectacular win over Hendon.

David Marvel was the star of the show, running in a hat-trick of tries as part of what new coach Kevin Green described as "our best performance for a long time."

Despite playing out of position at number 10, Marvel opened the scoring before setting up lock Jack Hillman for the second try with a clever inside pass.

The Royston forwards were in particularly formidable form, winning numerous turnovers, two of which set up tries for Chris Wallis.

Marvel scored his second before half time, while centre Shaun McDermott kicked four conversions to give Royston a 33-0 half time lead.

Although Royston relaxed a bit in the second period, Hendon managed only one consolation try midway through the half.

Marvel completed his hat-trick in the closing minutes, with McDermott adding another conversion.

Kevin Green said: "We had another big crowd down at the Heath and I think they were all entertained by the quality of rugby on show.

"Hendon are one of the best sides in the league so to beat them so comfortably is no mean feat.
