With second-from-bottom Haringey picking up draws in both their games this week, and Green bouncing back to defeat Aylesbury Vale 2-1 on Tuesday evening, Phil Snowden's side remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
Despite St Margaretsbury being dragged into the relegation dog-fight, Royston still travel to Kingsbury London Tigers on Saturday knowing that anything less than a victory will consign them to a bottom two finish and almost definite relegation to Division One.
The Crows took the lead in the 15th minute when Bradley Poole fired home after the visitors failed to clear a corner, but from then until half time it was all Green as they had several chances to level the score.
Jez McMurrough made it 2-0 shortly after the break when he slotted into the far corner of the net after a good ball from Graham Tibballs.
Green reduced the arrears 10 minutes into the second half with a deflected shot, but Tibballs restored the two-goal advantage in the 69th minute when he headed home a Poole cross.
Holmer again gave themselves the chance to send Royston down with a goal from Stone, but Ryan Cannon kept the home side's survival hopes alive with a good run from his own half before blasting the ball home from the edge of the box.
Saturday's trip to Kingsbury will again see Royston without the suspended Stuart Snowden and Jason Nash, but they will also be missing goalkeeper Ken Kemato following his red card against Hertford Town.
Kemato is likely to be replaced by either Sam Booth or recent signing Matt Cookson who played in a pair of minor cup games just before Easter.
One boost for boss Snowden is that Dave McMurrough is now available after suspension, and was expected to have a run-out in last night's reserve game at Colney Heath.
- If Oxhey Jets defeat Eynesbury Rovers in this evening's South Midlands Floodlight Cup game, the Crows will travel to Oxhey on Wednesday for a quarter-final tie.
