THE young Crows finished the year as they had started the season with a victory over St Ives.

Picking up from where they had left off in their previous game, the home side set about their visitors with pace and skill, but struggled to break down a five-man defence and some of St Ives negative tactics.

Wasteful finishing was the main reason Royston were only one-up at the break, the goal coming from the ever present Dan Crosk, after some fine approach play from Adam Slater and Brett Purkiss.

Rather than become embroiled in a scrap the hosts decided to play a pass and move game in the second period and totally ran the game.

Arash Kowkabzadheh and Joe McCormack tormented the marking St Ives players repeatedly, with McCormack first going close before scoring an absolute peach of a goal to put Royston 2-0 ahead.

Royston could and should have opened the floodgates from then on in, Jordan Wilson's clever flick striking the St Ives bar and Dalton O'Brien's effort being ruled out for offside being just two examples of the home side's dominance.

Royston: L Howard, D Crosk (S Day), M Bloss, M Evans, J Wilson, (D O'Brien), A.Kowkabzadheh, J Merideth, A Slater, J McCormack, B Purkiss, G Jackson (N Gwynne)

n The Crows first team will look to build on their 1-1 New Year's Eve draw with London Colney when they travel to Tring Athletic on Saturday.

The Buckinghamshire side lie ninth in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division. The two sides have yet to meet this season, but both won on their opponents groud during the 2004/5 campaign.
