A LATE winner from Harry Tuttle claimed victory for Knebworth - but Biggleswade United of Division Three gave them the fright of the lives.

The Division One side were soon under pressure as United pushed forward in search of an early opener with Luke Stevens and Jake Wallace going close.

At the other end the lively James Ferguson hit the post for the Panthers, with his first time strike leaving United keeper Sam Wyer rooted to the spot.

Almost immediately though, it was Biggleswade that made the breakthrough when Dan Fury pounced and turned the ball home with calm authority.

And with the powerful Michael Welsh bossing the middle of park, the champions of Division Three looked like they would cause another upset after knocking out Division Two winners Elsenham Youth in the semi final.

And United could well have had a few more, if not for Knebworth captain Jordan Borrie keeping things tight at the back.

Chris Thornton forced two good saves from Wyer, with his second chance coming courtesy of Jordan Angus' brilliant through ball.

As the half wore on it was Knebworth who began to control the tempo, with United soaking the pressure well.

Ferguson almost levelled though when he raced on to Patrick Anyadi's pass, but the striker's low finish rolled inches wide, before Anyadi shot over when he was well placed.

Continuing to press forward, Knebworth were rewarded in the second half when Tuttle pounced on a lofted free kick and coolly lifted the ball over the stranded Wyer for the most confident of strikes.

Panthers keeper Craig Malyan then tipped Welsh's free kick over the bar before Ashley Boness went close for United.

In an exciting final 10 minutes Thornton crashed another chance against the Biggleswade woodwork, with the tie looking all but set for extra time.

However, Tuttle had other ideas, snatching victory for Knebworth with just two minutes to go, keeping his composure once more by slotting home another well-taken strike.
