13-year-old Royston lad makes the grade

RUGBY hopeful Sam Copeland has been selected to play for the Cambridge County squad after impressing during trials.

The 13-year-old from Royston entered trials with the county squad along with 109 other players and, after three trial sessions over three weeks, was among 40 who were selected for the final squad for the upcoming season.

He will train and play for the county squad twice a week while continuing to turn out for Cambridge U13s.

Sam joined Cambridge after leaving Royston Rugby Club at the end of last season due to them not having an U13 side. He had been at Royston since joining as a five-year-old.
