GEORGE Congrave blasted a hat-trick as Hares under-11s hammered Letchworth 6-0. Hormead were dominant in this match from the first whistle, with excellent passing and movement, and the only real surprise was that it took them 10 minutes to open the scoring. Ryan Bowles and Adam Purvis combined well, with Bowles sending a curling shot into the far corner of the net. The second goal came from Congrave, but only after Nathan Sims broke up a rare Letchworth attack and carried the ball forward on a fine run, which ended in a good pass for Gongrave to slot home. Purvis made it 3-0 five minutes into the second half, and Congrave added another pair before Joe Lane topped off an excellent display with a well-taken goal. The under-13s started the New Year in rampant form with a convincing 8-0 home win against Stevenage Rangers. Luke Mossey led the way for the Hares with a personal tally of four goals, striking twice in each half. Further first-half goals from Tim Crosse, Jack Kugler and David Youell gave the Hares a 5-0 lead at half time. With a re-arranged line up in the second half, the Hares continued to control the game, with Tim Crosse scoring his second as Hares coasted home. The under-12s completed the double over Buntingford Cougars. Despite going 1-0 down early on, Hares soon took control and equalised with a James Kayes super strike. His second came after his touch from a Hares corner was scooped over the line by the Cougars keeper, before Rufus Pratt neatly tucked away a chance to send Hares into half-time leading 3-1. Hares soaked up the expected Buntingford pressure in the second half before man-of-the match Kaye completed his hat-trick with the goal of the game,. Latching on to an Elliot James-Thompson long-range free kick, he won his one-on-one with the keeper, finishing with a well-struck shot. Louis Kugler put the game well beyond Cougars' reach with a good first touch from a Matty Hilton corner, and the ball dropped sweetly on to his right boot for him to finish with a fine shot into the top right-hand corner. In contrast, the under-nine returned from Bishop's Stortford empty- handed, with the A team unlucky to lose 3-2 with goals from Alex Underwood and Jonathan Lacey, and the B team going down 5-1 with Bryce Hagger netting a consolation. The under-10 A side returned from a tough game at FC Comet with the Crow League points after a 3-2 win. Ewan Edwards bagged a brace, and Louis Morton netted once in an entertaining game.
