Last Saturday proved to be a special event for Royston Bowls Club.

Not only did new president Michael O’Flanagan welcome members new and old to the 2015 outdoor season, but a sundial was unveiled commemorating the life and generosity of former member Michael Randall, who, following his passing, left his house and grounds to the club.

During the afternoon, a bottle of whisky, donated by Joan Knight, was won in a ‘Spider’ competition by newcomer Jean Cook, while Gillian Fisk and Laurie Ramsey tied for second place in the Spoon Drive competition, Derek Smith beating them by one shot with 27 points.

President O’Flanagan also announced that Papworth Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit will be his chosen charity for the season.

The £418.50, which was raised with money coming from events on the Saturday but also the Stan Baker Spoon Drive Trophy event on Sunday, won by Glenn Williams with 24 points, will go towards Papworth CRU.
