ROYSTON Colts under-nines continued their search for a third straight Royston Crow Youth Football League tournament success with two wins and a draw in their three second qualifying round games on Sunday.

Colts found themselves up against Knebworth Cougars, Pin Green Juniors and Biggleswade Blue.

Their first game was against Knebworth, and as expected this was the hardest game of the three.

Jake Long opened the scoring after receiving the ball through the heart of the Knebworth defence from Jordan Campbell and finished well to the delight of all the players to calm their nerves.

The game flowed from end to end but it was in the last few minutes that Cougars forced a corner which was well taken but unfortunately resulted in a own goal after coming off Stephen Thake's shin.

Next up were Biggleswade Blues, and Colts started this game very well, applying plenty of pressure to the Blues defence.

Jordan Campbell opened the scoring with a fine solo effort to score past the keeper in the bottom left corner.

The second came from a great passing move when Matthew Stout won the ball in midfield on the halfway line, passed the to Long on the edge of the box who laid the ball off square with his first touch to Campbell who scored with a first time strike.

The final game meant only a draw was needed to secure a place in the final, but Colts confidence was high and they played some good football to secure a 2-0 win over Pin Green Juniors.

Both moves involved Stout and Long, the first came after Stout knocked a delightful past over the Juniors defence which bounced perfectly for Long to then head over the keeper to score.

Long secured his second after another fine pass from Stout between the Juniors defenders and with only the keeper to beat slotted calmly to the keeper's left.

Baldock's under-10 Templars qualified for the final round of the League Cup, on Sunday.

They won their qualifying group with two wins and one defeat.

Templars started well in the first game against Royston Celtic B.

A George Higginson goal after seven minutes gave Templars a well deserved lead.

Baldock were always on top and the points were wrapped up when an accurate cross from Daniel Nicholson was headed home by Jordan Massey for Baldock's second goal.

In the second game Templars lost 1-0 to Pin Green A.

Once again, Templars started well and could have been two or three goals ahead after some excellent passing moves between Matthew Judges, Elena Pisapia and Alex Close, but good goalkeeping and a bit of luck kept the Templars out.

Pin Green scored on the break as Baldock pushed forward and it took some good defending from Iain Angus and Ryan Savage to stop Pin Green adding a second.

Templars needed only a draw in the last game against Bishop's Stortford Jets.

But Baldock were in fine form, and started well with a spectacular shot from George Higginson giving Templars the lead.

Jets played some good football and Judges had to make a couple of good saves, but a quick long kick from Judges caught the Jets out as Massey sprinted through to wrap the game up 2-0 and see Baldock through to the finals day.

In the other group Baldock Crusaders suffered an early 3-0 defeat to Royston Celtic A.

A goal from William Budd earned the Crusaders a good draw against Pin Green B in the second game.

With Shefford and Pin Green drawing their game Crusaders needed to beat Shefford Saints to qualify.

Despite some great football and a great captain's performance from Connor Gray Crusaders just could not find the back of the net and had to settle for a goalless draw.

A tense 15 minutes were then spent watching Celtic against Pin Green, where a 3-0 win for Celtic would be enough to force a three-way play off.

However, Celtic beat Pin Green 2-0 and Green qualified ahead of the Crusaders and Shefford by a single goal.
