Cokenach won by 70 runs
COKENACH easily dispatched of Little Shelford on Saturday.
Having had quite a bit of overnight rain the Little Shelford skipper decided to put Cokenach in to bat.
Cokenach opener Peter Clarke fell to a ball that stuck in the pitch causing a top edge and was caught by a wonderful diving catch for 10. With the score on 25 Matt Stevens (43) was then joined by Phil Seale (19) and with Stevens hitting nine 4s in his total they shared a 54-run patnership until Stevens missed a yorker from veteran Nigel Tegg.
With Dan Stokes (22) coming in at No.4 things looked good for Cokenach at the 20-over mark at 96-2. However the following over Tegg took two quick wickets in the form of Seale (19) and Keel (0) to leave Cokenach reeling.
Dyson added 27 runs for Cokenach as Cokenach posted 164-8 – a total they were not exactly happy with.
Peter Clarke and Angus Lambert opened the bowling for Cokenach, with the latter taking a while to settle and Shelford’s opening batsmen I Smith (20) took full advantage before falling to a great catch in the gully from Stone, off Lamberts bowling.
Clarke was bowling beautifully at the other end beating the bat on numerous occasions, and with a great diving catch from Matt Poole and one from Badger Cresswell and two other bowled wickets he had taken the heart out of Little Shelford with figures of 10-3-19-4 to leave them reeling at 45-7. Lambert (8-1-42-3) chipped in with two more wickets.
With Shelford having nothing to lose Sleigh (14) and Sykes (34) swung the bat and got their team up to 88 before Stevens finished them off with two caught and bowled wickets to seal victory.
