FOLLOWING the example set by the first team, Royston Rugby Club's junior sides have their own scintillating form to boast about.

Taking on some of the best clubs in the North Herts area in the Letchworth Youth Rugby Festival, Royston dominated almost every age group and claimed the under-seven, eight, and 11 titles.

To cap an impressive tournament, the under-nines and 10s finished runners-up.

The under-11s saw off a strong Datchworth side 14-7 in their opening fixture. Oliver Shepherd was in the thick of everything and demonstrated some strong tackling, while Sam Copeland and Aaron Sims also looked impressive.

Robbie Murdoch grabbed a try before Sam Segameglio converted for 7-7.

It was more of the same in the second half, with Copeland, Shepherd, and Oliver Fraser driving Sims over the line for their second try of the match. Murdoch successfully converted with Royston registering an impressive opening game victory.

The Under-11s continued their form in their second game of the competition, beating hosts Letchworth 7-0.

Oliver Fraser and Thomas Darke upped the tempo in the second half and their superb tackling gave Royston a platform to build from.

Sims snatched his second try of the day before Sam Edney converted for another Royston win. Debutant Megan Smith impressed as a late replacement.

In their final game, Royston claimed the title with a 5-0 win against Hitchin, with the Crows' line outs and scrums proving the key. At 0-0 at the interval, Royston came out in the second half in determined mood with Oliver Bass going close.

Oliver Townsend's pressure at the scrum caused problems and as a result Murdoch was able to cut through the Hitchin line for the game's only try.

Man-of-the-match Oliver Fraser picked up the winning trophy.

Royston chairman David Gee said: "The performances in all age groups were a great testament to the quality of coaching at the club.
