GREAT CHISHILL crashed to their third straight defeat in Cambs Senior Division 3, with Burwell seconds their latest victors.

Burwell had been 163 for 6, but some prodigious hitting by the tail added 87 more runs to the total as the hosts raced to 250 at the close.

However, skipper Angus Gent (2-24) and slow bowler Steve Gardiner (2-22) restored some measure of control before the break.

Guy Misson (67) and Kirk Chilton took the score to 98 for 1 in reply, but a middle-order subsidence reduced Chishill to 157 for 8 before veteran Brian Manning (28 not out) showed what could have been as he briefly threatened to grab an unlikely win for the visitors before they were all out for 197.

n BALDOCK can count themselves unlucky, having drawn a game that they really should have won.

Baldock started well against Bayfords & Hertford, with Alistair Jones (5-77) removing the hosts' openers early on, before taking his third wicket to leave Bayford on 95 for 5.

However, the home side hit back with Blackett notching a superb 78, and despite some intelligent bowling from Rob Peacock and Logan Newman (2-40), Bayford closed on 186 for 9 off 53 overs.

The Baldock reply was somewhat measured against an experienced opening bowling pair, with skipper Rob Cant and Rob Peacock putting on 37 for the first wicket.

Their fall soon left the Baldock run rate struggling, with James Peacock (51) and Ranjit Rayat (25) doing their best to take the visitors' score forward.

However, at 148 for 5, wickets began to fall in search of boundaries, but Baldock were rescued by Andy Payne and Tim Dean.

Jones said: "It was a good game of cricket on a great wicket, but we feel that we should have won from the position we found ourselves in. However, we are still unbeaten and still top of Division 5.
