GREAT Chishill got their Creake Shield campaign up and running with an extra-time win over Division One side Bottisham Sports on Saturday.

In a closely fought contest, neither goalkeeper had much to do on an afternoon that was largely contested in the middle of the park.

Although Bottisham had the first chance when Andy Knight tipped a header onto the crossbar, it was Chishill who broke the deadlock when defender Dan Hicks turned in Gary Radford’s cut back from the edge of the box to score his first senior goal.

The visitors were soon back in the game, though, and scored from the penalty spot after a foul by Colin Saward.

The second half was as tight as the first with neither team creating any clear-cut openings and it wasn’t until five minutes into extra time that Chishill scored the winner.

Peter Jackson skilfully beat his marker on the left wing, before crossing for new signing George Kew to open his account for the club with a diving header.

Elliot Drury came close to sealing the win but the Bottisham ‘keeper saved well at his feet.

Jamie Dunsden was introduced late on after his long absence and he added stability to the midfield as Chishill held on for the victory.
