IN THE Cambs League Senior Division 3 Great Chishill maintained their push for promotion with a sparkling seven-wicket victory over Cambridge Granta thirds.

Captain Guy Musson provided the backbone of the innings with an undefeated 68.

However, it was Sam Stoop who produced the fireworks, with his second successive innings of 84, punishing the Granta bowlers as Chishill reached 243 for 3.

Earlier Critchley (72) and Hammersley (53) had ensured the hosts reached a very respectable total of 241 for 5. But it was Stoop who made the difference again, with a well-taken 2-59.

THE long wait for a first win ended for Great Chishill seconds on Saturday as they took maximum points, beating rivals Elmdon seconds by 51 runs.

The Cambs Junior Division 4C strugglers started well, with openers Spencer Loveday (44) and Simon Coxall (45) setting the tempo, and a with a rapid 18 from Martin Sorrell adding to the total, Great Chishill finished with a challenging 163.

And Gary Wright's miserly spell of 3-16, including six maidens, ensured Elmdon started slowly.

Then 11-year-old Ed Whyte was brought into the attack and immediately impressed by dismissing the Elmdon tail with 3-16, and supported by some enthusiastic fielding Great Chishill secured a well-deserved victory.
