THE top-of-the-table clash between Great Chishill and Linton saw Great Chishill run out narrow winners to claim the CCA Division One title in dramatic fashion.

Great Chishill batted first, and made a total of 175 from 40 overs.

Skipper Angus Gent, who has been in inspirational form this season, led by example once more with a rousing innings of 58.

He was ably supported by Richard Brunt, who made 44.

Linton looked as though they could pull off the win they needed to take the title, and with four overs to go had moved onto 155-8.

However, slow bowler Steve Gardener stepped in to mop up the tail, taking the last two wickets to finish with figures of 5-46 and ensure that Great Chishill were crowned champions.

Great Chishill seconds were also involved in a thrilling finish in their match at Whittlesford.

With four balls to go the scores were level with both teams on 155.

But the last batsman for Great Chishill, 13-year old Chris Sorrell, kept a cool head to hit the winning runs through extra cover.

Earlier, Don Chilton had bowled well to restrict Whittlesford to 155.

He took 3-31, while another 13-year old, Adam Wright, grabbed 2-17.
