ROYSTON Mencap Charity held its Annual Charity Day at Royston Golf Club last week.

The event, organised by L.B Seward and his charity group, has been running for 28 years and over this period it has raised thousands of pounds for the charity.

This year the event was entered by 72 players and included both singles and team prizes. Perhaps the most popular part of the day was the hole in one competition, sponsored by Mr Seward and Abbott Travel, which had a £10,000 prize on the 6th and lesser prizes on the other par three holes.

The overall singles prize and trophy went to Kevin Smith with 38 points. Smith also formed part of the winning three man team with Paul Vickery and Kenny Jones, who scored 87 points.

Mr Seward thanked all of the people of Royston and the surrounding areas that helped on the day, donated prizes and money. He also thanked Johnson Matthey and Abbott Travel for their assistance and sponsorship of the day. Overall it is expected that the day will have raised a further £4,500 for the Mencap Charity.
