CELTIC Crusaders cemented their place at the top of the Cambridge and District Colts League with a gritty performance at home to fellow high flying St Ives Rangers.

In this encounter both sides had periods where they played some excellent football and where they dominated possession.

However it was Rangers who were first to find the net with a well taken corner and some focused attacking.

Although Celtic's heads dipped for a moment, in the second half they came out fighting led by their determined captain Mitch Wooding.

Ryan Geraghty finished off a fine team move (comprising of good work from Scott Smith and Jacob Leighton) to level things and the Crusader began to dominate proceedings.

Joel Jones was next on the score sheet as he headed home a corner from close range but their opponents fought back only to be continually thwarted by 'keeper and man-of-the-match Harry Bracewell.

In the end kind fortune sealed the game for the Crusaders when they were dubiously awarded a corner which Tim Wooding headed in to cap a fine all round team display.
