A very hard pitch resulted in a rather scrappy opening period with no player on either side quite able to use the ball creatively and dictate play.

However, Matthew Foley was quickly into his stride and worked hard to win a lot of ball for Celtic throughout the match.

The visitors had a lot more of the play in the early stages of the match and forced a corner in the fifth minute and were then caught offside soon afterwards.

Ollie Green, ably supported up front by Matthew Cudmore, saw an overhead attempt at goal go over the top before being rewarded for his lively performance with a well taken goal after 14 minutes.

Celtic had been the better side for the first 20 minutes but could not capitalise on their dominance and Biggleswade came into the game a bit more prompting a tactical switch with Danny Mynott, pulled in to assist the midfield and Robbie Filby pushed out wide.

The latter responded on 24 minutes with a shot on target which was comfortably saved by the Biggleswade 'keeper.

After that Biggleswade started to put some pressure on the Celtic defence but without creating any real chances or having any shots on target.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Celtic the dominant side but never quite turning their superiority into goals and the home side threatening but never succeeding in getting back into the game.

The Celtic defence looked steady in the centre with Jordan Cooney and Tom McGee coping fairly comfortably with anything that the home side could throw at them and Brandon Hargreaves was seeing more of the ball down the left in the second half.

Ethan Lewis, starting at right back and then pushed up to the right wing, put in a fine combative performance which earned him the man-of-the-match award and brought him a goal with a shot from the edge of the area which the Biggleswade 'keeper could only help into the net.

A moment's relaxation from Celtic saw the home side down the other end winning a penalty when the ball bounced up and hit Callum Goodall on the hand, who otherwise showed some nice touches on his debut.

Ryan Judge was then called into serious action for the first time and made a fine save from a hard-struck shot by his opposite number.

Five minutes later Celtic made the game safe when Charlie Edwards kept his head and fired in a fine shot for the third goal when the ball came out from a goalmouth melee.
