MARK Beesley continued his hot scoring streak to fire Cambridge United into the play-offs.

Beesley initially struggled to make an impact following his January move from Forest Green Rovers, but the clever forward now seems to have adapted to United's style of play, and the goals are beginning to flow.

After heading the second goal in last Saturday's 2-0 win at Salisbury, he notched a brace in Tuesday's 2-0 triumph over Torquay, a result which confirmed that Jimmy Quinn's men will take their place in the end of season play-offs.

The Gulls started the match well, but United soon got to grips with their dangerous front line, and missed several chances to take the lead before, in the 41st minute, Beesley latched on to Dan Gleeson's through ball to score from a narrow angle.

Three minutes later, Torquay keeper Simon Rayner spilled a cross under pressure from Lee Boylan, and Beesley pounced to net his second.

The second half was a low- key affair, with the only highlight for United being the return of Lee McEvilly, who had been on the sidelines for five weeks with an ankle injury.

The club has confirmed that both legs of the play-off's will be all-ticket, and tickets for the home leg went on sale to season ticket holders yesterday (Wednesday). They will go on general sale on Monday.

The dates and opposition for the play-off matches will not be confirmed until after the final game of the regular season, at Northwich Victoria on Saturday.

Quinn must decide whether to rest any of his first teamers against a Vics side who have lost just one of their last 12 games. Boylan could be an injury doubt after sustaining a dead leg against Torquay, while Courtney Pitt, who has been carrying a groin injury, may find himself on the bench.
