FOWLMERE'S impressive run continued with a valuable point against derby rivals Barrington.

Unbeaten in five games, Fowlmere are now only five points behind BIS Division 1A leaders JM Sports.

Head coach Steve Walker said: "We've shown how far we have come.

"In our last two games against Barrington, they put seven past us on both occasions.

"Obviously we would have liked to have come away with the three points, but this was a vital away point and the fact that we have come away a bit disappointed shows that our expectations have risen."

In what was a cliched game of two halves, it was Barrington who came out on top seeing most of the play during the first half.

However, despite their possession, it was Fowlmere who opened the scoring, courtesy of a superb curled effort from Danny Mizon.

But the visitors' lead did not last long, as Barrington hit back with an equally impressive strike from Chad Carter-Woodrow from just outside the box.

And Carter-Woodrow grabbed his second minutes before the break, pouncing in the box after a good move through the middle of the park to send Barrington in with a half-time lead.

However, the second half belonged to Fowlmere, and after they dominated the majority of the half, their efforts were rewarded when Dan Caley popped up once again with another fine strike.

But Fowlmere could have snatched a late win when Steve Cooke looked to have scored the winner only for his late effort to be ruled offside.

Walker said: "On reflection it was probably a fair result. They were certainly the best team in the first half, and we definitely played the better in the second.

"I was a bit disappointed by the way we played in the first 45 minutes, but we bounced back after the break. We scored two very good goals, and inparticular, Mizon's strike was real quality."

Fowlmere travel to Somersham Town Reserves on Saturday in the Creake Shield.

Walker said: "The cup game will give us a nice break from the league and it should be a good game. Hopefully we'll get through, but although it will be nice to get further, it is the league that remains our priority.

"If we're to fulfil our target of promotion, we need to keep picking up the points."

- Fowlmere Reserves completed a good day all round when they beat Harston who are two divisions higher 5-2 in the Reserve Cup.
