Buntingford found themselves up against it in their first match of the season.
They began their defence of the Division 1 title with a disappointing display against newly-promoted South Loughton, and failed to put runs on the board.
John Clements, Martin Coote, and the normally reliable Chris Chambers were all dismissed early, and left Richard Pearce (49) and Chris Ford (59) to pick up the pieces.
South Loughton bowled and fielded well, and took a number of catches - all of which restricted Buntingford to 159 all out.
It was a total easily matched by South Loughton who eased their way to a seven- wicket victory with three overs to spare.
