GREAT Chishill's Georgie Stoop continues to impress with the racquet and this week beat British number two Katie O'Brien to claim the $25,000 Challenger tournament in Vigo, Spain.

The 21-year-old beat her opponent in straight sets 7-5 6-2 to take home the prize and give her confidence a boost leading up to her attempts to qualify for this year's US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Stoop was too good for her opponent in Vigo, despite O'Brien winning their two previous encounters, and came back from 4-1 down to break at 5-5 and claim the first set before steamrolling her opponent in the second with the hard courts of Spain suiting her hard hitting game.

On the back of a good Wimbledon performance this year where she pushed top 10 ranked Vera Zvonerava of Russia in their first round tie, Stoop, ranked 193 in the world, looks to have put a succession of injuries behind her.

Speaking to the Lawn Tennis Association website about her victory, Stoop said: "I have had a really fantastic week.

"I have played some really good tennis in every match and I feel I have a lot to be proud of, especially coming through a tough final with the win.

"I can take a lot of confidence from this week.

"It's never easy playing matches against friends or people you train with but it was a good competitive match against Katie.

"It's my second $25k win, and I feel ready for lots more so I'll take a day off and then it's back to the hard work.

"I want to win more so I need to keep working.
