British Superbike rider Luke Mossey gained his fourth podium finish of the 2017 season in the Bank Holiday racing weekend at Oulton Park.

Fresh from a double win at Brands Hatch Indy, Mossey was full of confidence and qualified third for race one at the Cheshire circuit, behind JG Speedfit Kawasaki team-mate Leon Haslam and Be Wiser Ducati rider Shane Byrne on pole.

The Royston motorcycle star raced consistently and spent most of race one tagging on to the back of Haslam and Byrne. There were a number of occasions when Mossey looked in a prime position to overtake Byrne but he ultimately held his place and finished third on the podium.

“I certainly can’t say it was a bad weekend as it wasn’t. The bike was running really well all weekend and we had a really good set-up,” Mossey said.

“I was happy with race one and it was another podium in the bag for us.”

Race two wasn’t ideal for Mossey after team-mate Haslam had a large collision with McAMS Yamaha’s James Ellison, both luckily coming off unscathed. Mossey was the first to approach the crash and with debris covering the track, he had to ease off, and eventually settled for a respectful fifth place.

Speaking after the race, Mossey said: “When Leon and James had their collision I had to roll off the throttle as there was dust and debris everywhere.

“When I came into Lodge, James’ bike was like a sidecar and I had to ride really wide to try and get past him. I lost all my drive into turn one and then everyone came past me, I knew they were on the softer tyre and as much as I tried I just couldn’t make the ground on them.”

There were vital points picked up for Mossey on Monday, and with Haslam crashing in race two, subsequently picking up no points, the Royston rider closes in on the Championship top spot.

“I am still lying in second place in the championship and only three points behind Leon now,” Mossey said.

“We have a nice long break now which gives us time to have some time out and get fully prepared for Knockhill.

“I can’t thank the team and all the sponsors enough again for their continued support.”

With a long break now in fruition, the next race action will take place on June 16-18 at Knockhill, Scotland.
