SOME of the country's top young boxers showcased their talents in Royston on Saturday and raised some much needed funds.

The competition that was held at the North Star Pub in Old North Road, featured more than 30 fighters from 11 upwards and raised £3,600 for the DC Boxing Club in Cambridge.

Organiser and club coach, Scott Barrett said: "This was great event that brought together some superb young boxers. We had a fantastic turn out with more than 250 people attending.

"The funds will now help the club buy a new mini bus, equipment and even a new ring. Which is what it's all about."

Royston's top boxer, Bradley Evans, also took part in the competition and showed just why he is an England Youth Champion, with good display.

The 17-year-old was also joined by boxers from Cambridge, South London, Milton Keynes, Stevenage and Sandy.

Barrett said: "The bouts were all of a high standard and there was some top notch boxing on display. There was a lot of school boy champions and some stars of the future taking part."

Barrett also praised the events organisation and the standard of its officials and medical staff.

He added: "We had a lot of support and people travelled from all over the place to be there. I just want to thank everyone who was involved, especially the events sponsors who have been very generous."

Event sponsors included: JKS Environment, Urban Plastics, Coach and Horses, Banyers Hotel, The Manor House, Heath Sports and Social Club, The Chequers, A.J Grab Hire, Mickey Woods, Howes Printers, and V.B Trophies.
