ROYSTON boxer Bradley Evans has been called into the England squad for the upcoming multi-nations tournament in Wales.

The 18-year-old bantamweight will travel with the squad in July in what promises to be a highly contested competition with the UK's top boxing talent on show.

Evans had set his sights on the competition, and back in May he told The Crow: "Hopefully I can get a call-up for the England squad. I love boxing for my country it's always an honour."

The selection highlights a remarkable year for the youngster, who is now ranked as the country's number one in the 54kg weight. He also lifted the Junior ABA Senior Title and beat the highly rated South African bantamweight champion Johnny Stingalinga in an exhibition match in Brentwood.

Evans' only defeat came at the hands of the current world silver and European gold medalist Michael Maguire in October.

Evans' coach Dave Blows said: "Bradley has had a months break but is now back training and preparing for the multi-nations tournament. It caps a fantastic season for him!"
