LAURENCE Mapp made a welcome return to action by winning the Elite section of the East Anglia BMX Summer Series.

Mapp came home first in A final, while his Royton Rockets team-mate did well after stepping up a class to finish fourth in the B final.

The weather was sunny and warm which gave ideal conditions in which to race and with over 250 riders from around the region taking part and with over 170 races during the afternoon the spectators were presented with some very competitive racing.

Rockets had riders in many of the classes with the youngest member, Ted Dalleywater, competing in the under-six class where he was rewarded with an excellent third place after a meeting long battle with fellow competitors.

In the seven year class A final Royston's Aaron Threader took second with Daniel Blanche in sixth after a mid race incident saw him drop back form a podium position. In the B final, Oliver Snelling took the win.

In the eight year class Aaron Dalleywater took sixth place in the A final while in the nine year class Ethan Lewis looked set for a win in the B final until he crashed out and had to settle for fourth.

The 11-12 year class saw James Handleigh finish in third and gain a Rider of the Day award for being the top 11-year-old in the class whilst Louis Burton, also one of the 11year old riders, finished in seventh.

The 13-14 year class saw Ben Gutteridge, another of the younger riders in the class take fourth in the B final whilst older brother Wayne fought hard in his semi final to make the A final of the 15-16 year class where he took sixth, while Katie Roberts tried her skills against the boys and took fourth in the C final.

The 30+ men's class saw a very large field battling it out with Royston's Lee Alexander taking fourth in the A final.
