MELBOURN Bowls Club pair Yvonne Blows and Jacqui Dodds won the Ladies Cambridge Business Pairs Knockout competition for the fourth time at the 18-end finals at Trumpington last weekend.

The couple had a hard time initially and found themselves trailing 13-1 to d Griggs and Sue Cole of Comberton after eight ends.

However, they turned things around and they eventually won by 20 shots to 13 to win the event they won in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

This was the fourth year the couple had won this competition having also won in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Meanwhile, Melbourn Bowls Club held their annual Open Triples and Gala Day on Sunday, August 29, where teams from Cambs and Herts came together at the newly refurbished Club Green at Melbourn.

Two groups of nine teams played three nine-end sessions, the winners of each group playing in a hard-fought final.

During intervals between games, competitions, raffles, and tombola stalls kept everyone busy for an enjoyable day.

A team from Alexander Behive in Cambridge came through as eventual winners after beating Abbey, also of Cambridge by a narrow margin.

Melbourn Bowls Club would like to thank Cecil Newling of Royston for their sponsorship and support of the event.
