A FINE Melbourn performance saw them win a good-spirited game.

There was little goalmouth action in the first half, with the home side restricted to shots from outside the box.

James Rushton notably just missed the right apex from distance and Charles Johnson blasting just over.

The highlight of the first half was a fingertip save at full stretch by the Arlesey keeper, turning Sam Bedlow's swerving goalbound shot round the right post.

The second half saw the arrival of Willem Van de Ven, who made an impact by supplying Ben Webb, followed by a cool finish from just inside the box, to give Dynamos the lead.

Webb then turned provider as his cross was turned in by alert sub George McDermott, who was denied a second moments later as his shot hit the post and rolled along the line.

Melbourn Dynamos Tigers U-8 0 Shefford Saints Whites 2

TIGERS displayed a much improved performance against a skilful and well organised Shefford side.

Oscar Jones in goal and Thomas Lucas at the back held firm early on as the Shefford attack were restricted to long range efforts.

The game remained goalless until halfway through the first half when Tigers lost possession and Shefford capitalised to make it 1-0.

Melbourn responded well with the hard working Ryan Barton and Matthew Harris putting the Shefford defence under pressure.

The second half proved to be a much more even affair.

Tigers pushed up the field and had plenty of possession in the Shefford half, this left them a little vulnerable at the back but Charlotte Knight and player of the match Andrew Chitty made some excellent interventions.

Substitutes Megan Jeray and Connor Patel won most of the midfield battles but just as Tigers looked like getting back into the game Shefford scored a second, the ball just bouncing over the line despite a valiant effort by Jones.

Tigers again responded well and lady luck wasn't on their side as Harris just missed the target from an acute angle. Jeray had an effort from close range blocked, then Jack Morley, who ran tirelessly for the whole match, just failed to connect from two yards out.

Stotfold Juniors A 1 Royston Celtic A 0

STOTFOLD continue to be Celtic's bogey team as they took the victory on Saturday.

The home team put pressure on Celtic early in the game but the sharp defensive reactions of Jordan Cooney and Robbie Filby managed to prevent Stotfold from scoring on many occasions.

However, late in the second half, Stotfold did manage to get past the defenders and keeper Ben Watson was unable to stop the ball finding the back of the net despite making some great saves earlier in the game.

Eamon Henderson played his first game for the A team and he put in a good all-round performance.

Stotfold Juniors B 0 Royston Celtic B 0

CELTIC B team have also suffered at the hands of Stotfold in their previous meetings but this game was fantastically battled.

Ian Kuenzi and Ethan Lewis put in huge amounts of effort and continually strive to better their games. Tom McGlynn also made himself busy around the pitch.

In the first half, Matthew Foley came close to scoring from a corner, and in the second half Edward Atkins nearly broke the bad luck spell when his shot made it past the keeper but it was unfortunately knocked away by the defence.

Keeper Jack Mills had a tremendous game as he made some great saves and put in some strong goal kicks.
