Comberton Utd A 2 JM Sports Res 4 JM got back to winning ways at Comberton on a very heavy pitch. The visitors made all the early running but some woeful finishing, mainly by Wiffin, meant the score remained goalless. Then, against the run of play, a Comberton player intercepted a pass from Smith and his shot hit the unfortunate Waite on the leg, sending keeper Gordon the wrong way. Sports showed little fight up until half-time and were lucky to be only 1-0 down. Manager Steve Laughlin then read the riot act to his team, demanding more passion - and it worked. The visitors were 2-1 up little more than five minutes after the restart. Holson and Pinner combined down the right, Holson sent in a cross which Smith turned on to a post but Gwynne followed up to smash the ball home. Then from a pass from Waite, Pinner found Holson and his cheeky lob found the back of the net. Within 10 minutes the scores were back level when a hopeful punt upfield was about to be collected by Waite, but keeper Gordon called and the ball got stuck in the mud. The Comberton forward could not believe his luck, latched on to the ball and rolled it into the empty net. JM did not let this affect them and piled forward. Pinner hit a post after a good ball from Wiffin, then Smith made up for his earlier mistake by beating three players and coolly side-footing past the keeper. The hosts then put the game to bed when Ryding bought the ball out of defence and, with a 40-yard slide rule pass, found Gwynne, who raced clear and finished smartly.
