Bassingbourn U11s overcame Bishop’s Stortford Athletic 3-1 after a good performance.

Bassingbourn gradually forced their way into the game but couldn’t find their usual fluency and their threats were mainly restricted to breakaways and the odd corner. Finally, the visitors’ pressure saw them deservedly draw first blood and the score stayed 1-0 until the break.

After some strong reminders from the coaching staff, Bassingbourn came out a different team for the second half. With one chance having already hit the bar, some great persistence down the left from Josh Haigh saw his cross bundled into the Athletic net by George French.

This goal really seemed to galvanise the home side and chances began to flow. A lovely passing move through midfield ended with Josh Thurlby coolly chipping Stortford’s ‘keeper and this was followed by another lovely finish from Finlay Burchett.
