Bassingbourn Cricket Club showed a glimpse of the future when the first team played at Longstowe as eight of the team were under 24-years-old.
Bassingbourn were put in on a damp pitch and wickets fell quickly until Ben Allen (50) was joined by Tom Andrews (21) both blending caution with aggression.
Unfortunately, wickets continued to tumble but Sam Curtis made 15 and Neil Smith provided a little late acceleration with 16 before holing out in the deep.
N Lenton was the pick of the Longstowe bowlers with 3-31. Bassingbourn's 141 all out started to look a very good total as Luc Pascal (10-3-2-15) and Ricky Sykes (10-3-4-19) bowled with threat and economy.
Pascal got the first wicket with extra bounce surprising the batsmen to give Matt Andrews the first of his two tumbling catches. Bassingbourn were excellent in the field, Jaco vd Bijl was magnificent and Allen's diving stop led to the first run out.

Sykes then got into the wickets, bowling two players in consecutive balls. The home side were restricted to 14 after 10 overs and 42 after 20. Only John Murdon provided stern resistance and he was run out by Sykes and wicket-keeper Sam Curtis.
Some late hitting by Lenton could not keep up the run rate and once Allen tempted him to give a catch to Mark Smith, all that was needed was for Adam Smith to get his first wicket for the first team to complete a fine victory.
