LANGFORD 3 (J Delasalle 2, M Holmes) ROYSTON TOWN 1 (R Cannon ) ROYSTON'S away-day woes continued as they crashed to their seventh successive on-the-road defeat. The Crows have won only two league games away from Garden Walk, and have yet to win away in 2006. Ryan Cannon's 69th-minute goal proved to be only a consolation at Forde Park for Mark Saggers' side against fellow strugglers Langford. Fielding new signing Glen Russell, who has Southern League experience with Baldock Town, the Crows could have had a penalty in the first two minutes, on Saturday, but only seemed to wake up following Cannon's goal. By then it was too late and Saggers' team remain sixth from bottom. With keeper Barry White unavailable because of work commitments, teenager Russell Jones stepped up from the reserves and produced a fine performance. He denied Pete Saunder's strike after good work from Jim Bywater and Russell Bull, and he produced further good saves from Robert Groves and Lee Wilson as Langford pressed forward. The Crows briefly threatened as a good build-up between Russell and Cannon finished with Jason Nash firing over from a good position. The visitors did not force Adam Lawrence into a save throughout the first half as Langford continued to press forward, with Holmes and Groves coming close and Russell saving well from Bywater. Langford took the lead in the 36th minute when Deep Banghard released Groves down the Langford left and Jones again saved well from a Marc Holmes header, pushing it away for a corner. Groves swung the ball in and Joe Delasalle headed home at the far post despite the efforts of the defender on a post to clear. The hosts doubled their lead two minutes into the second half when Holmes netted after Lee Wilson's effort deflected to him. He held off a defender before rounding Russell to push the ball into an empty net. The game was effectively wrapped up in the 62nd minute when Holmes released Groves and his cross found Delasalle at the far post to smash home his second of the game and Langford's third. The Reds were rampant but Royston were beginning to look dangerous on the break and, seven minutes later, Cannon worked himself a good opening on the left of the Reds area and was able to slide home past the advancing Lawrence. The Crows had a period of pressure, but Langford held on to end a seven-game winless streak, and leave Royston looking for some vital points as they start a run of three successive home games. Seventh-placed Leverstock Green are the visitors to Garden Walk, on Saturday, before Royston host second-from-bottom Harpenden Town on Tuesday evening and leaders Oxford City the following Saturday. Royston Town: R Jones; M Saunders, C Geldart (J McMurrough), S Snowden, M Williams, P Flack, L Rogers, J Nash (P Lamont), G Russell, C Silenti (R Dove), R Cannon.
