Attfield anger at Bushey no-show

BUNTINGFORD Town were left fuming after their scheduled opponents failed to arrive for Saturday's Herts County League game. Town were due to entertain Bushey Rangers at The Bury with a 1.30pm kick-off, but received a phone call at 12.10pm saying they were unable to raise a team. However, Rangers did manage to field a reserve side to fulfil their home game against Sarratt Reserves, and they recorded a 3-0 win to maintain their promotion push. "I'm completely baffled how they can fulfil a reserve fixture but not the first team one," blasted Town boss Paul Attfield. "Surely, the sensible thing to do is to call off the reserve game and play the first team one. "It was a shambles of a situation. They claimed their only had six players - it's hard to believe that they lost that many on the morning of the game. "We expect to get the three points." Town were left in a similar situation last season when basement side Croxley Guild failed to show for a game at The Bury and they were awarded the win. Attfield was not the only person dismayed at Rangers' no-show, with captain Duncan Easley saying: "They are bang out of order. "If we were challenging for the title, they would have let all the other teams down." Bushey Rangers refused to comment while a league spokesman said the matter would be referred to the management committee. After a week without a game, Town face four games in eight days as they attempt to finish runners-up in their first season in the Premier Division. They make the short journey to basement side Wormley Rovers on Saturday before travelling to Bushey on Tuesday to face Met Police in the semi-final second leg of the Herts Floodlight Cup, with the sides level at 1-1. They then visit Hadley next Thursday in a rehearsal of the league cup final before visiting London Lions on Saturday, April 22.
