CAMBRIDGE United have league leaders Aldershot in their sights after they climbed to second in the Blue Square Premier table.

United moved above Torquay and took second spot following Tuesday nights 2-1 win at Oxford. Although the Shots still have a 10-point advantage, Jimmy Quinn will be hoping their hectic schedule - they are still in two cup competitions - will take its toll in the coming weeks.

A Lee Boylan double helped United to victory at Oxford. The ex-Canvey striker's season has been hampered by injury, but since the departure of Scott Rendell he has grabbed his chance in the first team with both hands.

Boylan gave Cambridge the lead with a looping header from a Rob Wolleaston cross. Oxford were back on level terms two minutes later thanks to Matt Green, but Boylan netted the winner in the second half after good work from Lee McEvilly. However, United were indebted to goalkeeper Danny Potter, who made a string of fine saves.

Last Saturday Boylan also scored twice in a 2-0 home win over York City. The first goal saw the striker capitalise on a defensive error to guide the ball past the keeper, while the second was squeezed in from an acute angle following a Stephen Reed cross.

Jimmy Quinn has been named Blue Square Manager of the Month for February. The award comes after a run of three wins and draw in the last month, which included victories over Stevenage and Halifax.

This weekend United travel north to face struggling Farsley Celtic.

With Aldershot in FA Trophy action, the U's will be looking to narrow the gap between themselves and the leaders to seven points. Reed picked up an ankle injury in training which will keep him on the sidelines, while skipper Danny Brown is still a couple of weeks away from fitness.
