ASPENDEN Standon & Puckeridge were in fine form with a highly competitive win over Harlow Town.

In an entertaining match, Gordon Devonshire (69) opened well for Aspenden, with James Williams (10), Rob Devonshire (15) and Mathieu Booth (10) all adding to his tally.

When captain Mark Potter came to the crease, Aspenden were on 113-4, and the in-form Potter smashed 51 not out to set Harlow 180 to win in 40 overs.

Mark Pankhurst and Clark Baxter bowled with authority to keep the Harlow run rate below four an over.

Then Harlow put together a partnership of 75, to give themselves a chance.

Potter and Michael Strange then changed the shape of the game again, and within eight overs had turned the game completely, taking 2-23 and 4-44 respectively, to leave Harlow 115-7.

With overs running out, Harlow had to go for the win, but Paul Ward and Rob Devonshire were more than a match, with Harlow finishing on 147.

The pair bowled well under pressure, and were rewarded with wickets that helped seal a great win for their club.

The win followed another victory on Saturday, as Aspenden ran out convincing winners against promotion rivals Farnham seconds, thanks largely to Mark Potter's first century.

After being pegged back by some accurate Farnham bowling, Aspenden lost Simon Groom (3) and Mark Yates (7) early on.

But the impressive partnership of Potter (117) and Michael Strange (91) more than made amends by helping their side reach 282-5.

However, a touch of complacency hit the Aspenden ranks and some sloppy cricket allowed Farnham back in the match.

But luckily for Aspenden, solid bowling and a number of outstanding catches upped the tempo.

Clark Baxter and Paul Ward took their first league wickets, with Farnham running out of fire power to finish on 168-7.
