Melbourn Dynamos Panthers A under-10s battled hard but went down 4-1 to Ashwell Academicals.
But it was a bright start for the Panthers, with Sam Bedlow and James Rushton supplying the energetic pairing of Charlie Weber and Dan Atkins up front.
At the other end Willem van de Ven again played well at the back for Melbourn, alongside Alex Maskell.
Ashwell took the lead with a calm strike that left Ross Cockburn with little chance, and made it 2-0 despite a fine initial save by Cockburn.
In the second half, player-of-the-match Bedlow was pushed into the Melbourn attack and pounced on a loose ball to sweep the home a fine goal.
However, as the Panthers pushed for an equaliser, Ashwell showed why they are near the top of the division with two more cool strikes.
