With expectations high on both sides the game started with early chances being created at both ends.
The score remained level at the break after a lively and closely contested half.
In a tense second half both teams pressed forward trying to find a winner and it was Ashwell who grabbed it at the death when Ben Reed found space in a crowded area to slot a low shot through a forest of legs to clinch a hard-fought victory.
