Bassingbourn suffered their first defeat of the season with a spirited six wicket loss to Ashdon.
After choosing to bat first, Bassingbourn’s top order struggled on a green pitch. Both openers went early and Scott Bates was bowled for 17 despite hitting a huge 6. Skipper Adrian Wilson batted well for 27 but wickets fell regularly. Some late order strikes from Michael Kelsey 11* saw Bassingbourn to a total of 132.
Bassingbourn would have to bowl well to win and Matthew Andrews 1 for 20 and Ben Allen 0 for 24 bowled their 10 overs to order. Unfortunately Ashdon had too many wickets in hand and despite three late wickets from Tom Andrews they reached their target with 3 overs to spare thanks to Chris Wiseby’s quick fire 33*.
Team: M Andrews, Bartlett, Bates (wk), Wilson (capt), Allen, N Smith, J Robinson, Carter, T Andrews, M Kelsey, C Plumb
