CHRIS Allan helped steer Barley to a valuable six-wicket win, with his well-hit 72 doing much to see off Longstowe.

Bouncing back from three straight Cambs Junior League Division 1B defeats the hosts responded well, and had Longstowe all out for 134 with skipper Brian Symes bowling John Murden, Shaun Davenport and Alistair Fox.

Peter Chuck and Ali Wallace both chipped in with two each, and as a result, the visitors were quickly despatched.

In reply, Allan came in and soon had Longstowe on the back foot with an impressive display that yielded nine fours and three sixes.

Symes also impressed with the bat and his 33 pushed the hosts further along before he was bowled by Paul Murden.

With two runs needed for victory, Wallace came in and won the match with a six.

The club hosted its annual six-a-side competition on Sunday, with players from across North Herts and South Cambs.

In an entertaining competition, the Barley Bulls retained the trophy, and funds will go towards new mowing equipment.

In Division 1, Barrington slipped up at Horseheath and went down by nine wickets. The visitors were all out for 84 - a total the hosts reached with ease and with the loss of just one wicket.

Barrington seconds faired better however, in Division 5C, with a comfortable seven-wicket against Sawston fourths.

The visitors were all out for a lacklustre 90, with Jamie Holden leading the way with four well-worked wickets.

Martin Winter also took three, with only Peter May (20) and Murray Hardy (21) ever threatening with the bat.

In reply, Barrington finished on 94 for 3, with Steve Douglas notching a cool 51, after opener Greg Douglas had added a valuable early 23.

Bassingbourn's 145 for 9 proved too much for Haslingfield in Division 2C, who could muster only 127 for 7 from their 40 overs, while Bassingbourn seconds completed a confident weekend with a 86-run win over Linton Village seconds in Division 5C.

In Division 3C Steeple Morden grabbed their first win since mid May with a six-wicket victory at Weston Colville seconds. Steeple restricted the hosts to 116 for 10, and in reply only lost four wickets as they hit 117.

In a close Division 1B encounter Cokenach slipped to a one-wicket defeat at the hands of Great Shelford.

The hosts scored 98 all out, with only Peter Clarke (23) and Philip Seale (21) troubling the Great Shelford field.

Paul Byatt hit 41 in reply for the visitors, who also struggled to find any momentum with the bat as they made 99 for 9. Mark Milne saw them home with his 23 not out, despite the best efforts of Jack Sirett who took four wickets.
