FOXTON and Metals reached the final of the Chris Boote Memorial Trophy, making their way through two thrilling semi-finals.

Metals were the first club to book their place in the final after overcoming Barrington on Monday.

The entertaining game went to extra time with both sides working tirelessly for a win.

Metals proved the stronger of the two, however, with Steve Plumb, Adam Stokes, and Neil Vandermere scoring the goals in a 3-2 win.

The action continued on Tuesday, when Foxton saw off a hard-working Melbourn side to reach their fourth successive final.

Foxton, who have won the trophy for the past three years, celebrated after Chamberlain and Audley fired them to victory.

The final of the competition will be played tomorrow (Friday) at Fowlmere Sports and Social Club at 6.30pm.

There is also a veteran's match between Cambridge United and Shelfords tonight (Thursday) which will also be played at Fowlmere.

Each game has helped raise much-needed funds for the Cambridge Cancer Research Fund, and since the competition started in 1983, has raised more than £36,000.
