THE Royston Rockets' BMX summer calendar came to a close this week, with Lee Alexander becoming the club's first regional champion.

The Rockets had 35 riders taking part, with five of their mini Rockets making it through to the under-six A final.

Ted Dalleywater finished second ahead of James King in third, with Marmaduke Birt fifth.

Loui Foreman finished seventh and Archie Yorke took eighth place.

In the year seven class Ethan Vernon finished second in the A final, closely followed by Daniel Blanche in third place.

In the A final of the year nine class Ethan Lewis finished third with team mate Zak Foreman crossing the line in sixth position.

George Bracewell was eighth in the year 10 class, while in the combined 11-12 year class, James Handleigh finished second with Louis Burton taking third, ahead of Aston Blanche in fourth place.

Nash Clements finished second in the B Final.

The 13-14 year class action saw Antony Taylor finishing third, while in the 15-16 year male category Wayne Gutteridge took fifth place in the A final, with Zak Pegram finishing sixth in the B Final.

The 17+ event produced some fast and furious racing, with Richard Townsend challenging top national riders to finish second.

In the 30+ class Royston had their first regional champion, with Lee Alexander coming home first.

Darren Foreman finished third in the B Final.

Royston's only female rider at the event, Katie Roberts, took the club's second championship winning ride in the 13+ class, and won the Rider of the Day award.

In the Cruiser section, Tom Yorke finished sixth in the 30-39 class, and in the 40+ class Paul Bateman finished in second place with Phil Burton taking fourth place.
