Royston Rockets got their BMX East Summer Series campaign off to a great start.

The opening venue was the Cyclopark in Gravesend, a challenging track which will also be the opening venue of the National BMX Racing Series.

But while the Kent facility, often dubbed 'Cyclonepark', lived up to its windy reputation, the Rockets breezed through to many successes.

Eleven from the club made it into A finals with Eleni Rushforth (female 13-14), Annalise Cadman-Carpenter (cruiser 13-14) and Freddie Cadman-Carpenter (cruiser 17-29) all picking up second places.

Annalise was also fourth in the male 14 group, the same position as Cara Rushforth managed in the female cruiser 30-plus race.

Dominic Hinds was the only other rider to make a podium, coming third in the male 15.

Other finalists were Billy Irwin (fifth in male 17-29), Johan Potgieter (sixth, male 10), Deacon Childs (seventh, male 10), Hayden Stone (eighth, male 15) and Elizabeth Bown (eighth, female 17-plus), the latter having suffered a crash.

Max Bilantz made his first step up from club races to regional level, coming sixth in the male 12 B final.

Everyone is welcome at the Royston Rockets and can be coached to race.

The club's summer series runs on Tuesdays, starting April 11.
