ROYSTON Tennis Club started the vets season with the second team chalking up a 6-2 home win against Buckden seconds, but their second round match away to Burwell's first team did not go so well and ended in a 6-2 loss. The players were Emma Windred, Doug Higgings, Kathy Betts, John Holmes, Karin Lambert and Garry Tobiss.
The Vets first team of Mike Fellingham, Pru Burton, Ralph Betts and Christine Knight had a tough match at home to last year's division winners David Lloyd first team.
Although nearly every game went to deuce, the final score did not reflect the close match with Royston losing 8-0.
Both Royston teams are due to play their next rounds at the weekend.
The weather put paid to the club's first seasons tournament which was cancelled twice; once for the pouring rain and then snow.
It is now hoped to reschedule it in the next few weeks.
