MATTHEW Clark won the National Pro-Am qualifier at Royston Golf club on Sunday.

The victory means he will now head off with Club Professional, Sean Clark, to Old Fold Manor Golf Club in May to try and win the qualifying event, which sees the winners take an all expenses paid trip to the Bahamas.

The 27-year-old mustered 40 points in tricky conditions to lead the field by two shots. Arthur Brennan was a clear second on 38, while Dave Rowell pipped Adam Woods for third spot on count back, as both players finished with 37 points.

Woods had the consolation of taking first place in the blind pairs competition, where only on completion of their round, players found out who their partners were.

Woods and Stewart Hart finished with 43 points while Clark and Adrian Shoebridge were second in front of Brennan and Gary Noble in third.

Paul Hayden had a sparkling round of nett 64 to comfortably win the Men's Saturday Medal. The 12-handicapper coasted home in just one over par to set up his victory ahead of Chris Beaumont.

Trevor Sweeting was third with a nett 69 while Mark Rogers had the lowest gross score with a 70.

The Junior Medal was won by John Middlemass with a nett 70 ahead of Jonathan Windle and Matt Barrett.

The ladies also played a Medal on Saturday and Sue Bidwell romped away from the field with an impressive nett 68, six strokes under the CSS.

Sue's handicap has now been trimmed from 26 to 23 which is testament to her dedication.

Carolyn Devaney was second ahead of Sue Leadbeater and Karen Pearson.

Meanwhile at Heydon Grange Golf Club, It was a good weekend for Mr and Mrs Patterson's trophy cabinet as both Adrian and Jane were victorious in their respective competitions this weekend.

The Barn Trophy is the first event of the year for the men's section and was won by Adrian and Ray Charles (pictured) with 39 points despite playing in a strong wind.

They were presented with their trophy by club captain Chris Collinson.

John Black, last year's captain, won the Winter Singles trophy after beating Collinson in the final.

The first competition for the ladies at Heydon Grange was played on Sunday in the Springs Pairs, a stableford competition, with the draw for partners done after the round has been completed.

The winning pair, Margaret Harvey and Jane Patterson, were presented with the trophy by Lady Captain Hazel Hayden.
