MELDRETH returned to winning ways in the Men’s County League with wins away at Newmarket and at home to Chesterton. They beat bottom of the table Newmarket 6-1 with Roy Smith’s rink of Dennis Evans, Don Sheldrick and John Stubbings winning 29-18. Malcolm Chapman’s rink won 25-19 and Alan Genockey’s rink finished 20-15 to the Meldreth bowler.
The home side came out on top against Chesterton 5-2 with Roy Smith’s rink being top performers with a 30-10 victory.
Malcolm Chapman’s rink was won 26-9 while Bernie Sewell’s rink only just lost 21-25. Kevin Stanford’s rink lost heavily 10-27 but the overall win 87 shots to 72 gave the home team five points.
Unfortunately, in the county triples semi-final, Meldreth trio Malcolm Chapman, Bernie Sewell and Kevin Stanford lost 18- 14 to Kevin Kent, Chris Chapman and Mark Law of Chesterton.
The turning point was in the 13th end with the score at 9-12 and Meldreth holding three shots but opposing skip Mark Law, who played extremely well, took out these shots with two of his woods to leave them holding three shots to take a 15-9 victory.
