Royston RFC 17

Friendly

ROYSTON RFC sent a mixture of first, second and veteran team players for a friendly against Newmarket Development on Saturday.

The visitors opened the scoring early on through full-back Jack Sirett following good work from Jamie Green and Jason Deards. Paul Greaves missed the conversion against his former side.

The second half started slowly before Royston began to turn the screw, and they added to their score when Muirhead scored a converted try. Sirett scored his second try of the match late on to seal the win.

Royston U9s were in action in a triple-header against Wendens Ambo on Sunday morning.

The first match was drawn with both teams scoring two tries, while Royston dropped off in the second match and found themselves five tries down after the first half, but improved after the break to score two unanswered tries.

Battled and bruised, Royston went into their final match seeking their first win of the morning. In a match equally as enthralling as the first, luck swung against Royston as they went down two tries to one.

The stand-out newcomers for Royston were forwards Reid Beauchamp and Timothy Hoyt, and back William Hamblin.

Royston U7s continued their good form as they made it through four matches against Wendens Ambo unbeaten on Sunday.

A combination of persistent defending and attacking flair led to a haul of over 30 tries. Leading try scorers were Luke Saltmarsh, Josh Jones and Billy T with superb support from Rory Rees, Matthew Weinman and Oscar Mallows. Man of the Match was Alex Moss for his tenacious defending.
