Royston Golf Club’s junior captain, Sam Chipperfield, putted his way to success on Saturday afternoon by winning the Vernon Putting competition.
Chipperfield defeated Stuart Hart 3&2 in the 36-hole final to take the title. It was a disappointing finial for Hart who was looking to make it a double winning day, having earlier returned a 66 to win yet another medal competition. In the medal James Mowatt was second with a 68 and Lee Richardson third on 69.
In the Thursday medal there was a rare victory of Mike Phizacklea who completed the 18 holes in a net 69 whilst Chris Little was second on 70.
In Sunday’s four ball better ball competition, back-to-back birdies at the 17th and 18th saw Ian Rumbold and Ben Bennett take victory on count back with 41 points from Trevor Deards and Hart.
