Sam Lynn was the highlight among a number of personal bests and records as Greneway had another successful athletics meet.
Competing in the Year 7 and 8 North Herts Schools’ League Lynn recorded a time of 26.30 seconds in the 200m, smashing the Ickneild Walk school’s record.
He wasn’t the only one who improved their best times with a number setting new benchmarks and others moving onto, or higher up, the school’s all-time list.
The two boys’ relay teams also got into the act, adding victories on top of their PBs.
For the 100m there were large amounts of success with every student who ran achieving a personal best and both Year 8 teams added a second place to the victory as well.
Many athletes in the younger years were close or even defeated their Year 8 counterparts, showing off the talent Greneway School has on offer.
As for field events is was a well-rounded success for the Royston school as nine athletes achieved first place with almost all of them achieving a personal best.
The Year 7 team grabbed nine top spots and the Year 8s double that.
Terry Graves, assistant head teacher at the middle school, said: “In very hot conditions, with temperatures hitting 34C, our athletes represented Greneway with pride and gave their all in some very tough competitions.
“Each athlete showed their CRISP growth mindset and now strives to achieve well in the Championships.
“Special thanks go to Mr Crook, Mr Dowler, Mrs Ofstedahl, Mr Judge and Mrs Foulger and to Marriott’s School for expertly and efficiently organising the ‘meet’.”
Greneway were in action again yesterday afternoon at the Ridlins Athletics Stadium in Stevenage for the North Herts Schools’ Championship after the Royston Crow went to press.
